イマジネックストのスケレトン海賊: Imaginext Skeleton Deckhands

Imaginext Pirates: Skeleton Deckhands

This is only maybe the 6th or 7th toy from the Imaginext brand that I've bought which didn't come from the DC Super Friends line. Something struck me about these guys. I didn't see fierce warriors, scary skeletons, or ferocious beasts, I found them oddly charming and cute. They think that they're hiding in these silly shark outfits, as if nobody will ever know they're not really sharks. The whole idea of what they are thinking and how they've convinced themselves of what a genius plan this all is is absurdly funny to me. I had to buy them.

I don't know why I love things dressed in animal costumes, I just do. I know these are supposed to be ghastly skeletal pirate warriors but I can't look past how silly and fun they come off. This is great however, since this is a toy line aimed at 3 to 8 year old kids. You don't want kids to be afraid of the toys you want them to buy them. The skeleton figures are basically the same, aside from pants and shirt color and that one has a hook for a hand. The difference really comes in with the type of armor each has and the accessory/weapon. These may have been the best skeleton themed figures Fisher-Price had made for the Imaginext brand when they were released. There are newer and more improved skeleton warriors being sold now that feature a boney chest, but the smooth basic Imaginext figure chest isn't a fault here as it's pretty much covered up by the shark outfit.

Back to the accessories included, you have 2 swords, a paddle/club and a pirate flag. Add to that the hook hand one of the Skeleton Deckhands has, and these guys can be pretty well armed for battle. One of the weapons really stood out to me, and it could be just a coincidence in design, or a nod to another line that would continue in a sting of nods seen throughout the Imaginext brands. One of the swords included looks a lot like the sword the Masters of the Universe Mer-Man figure carries. A crustaceous themed sword wouldn't be too far fetched for a couple pirate sharks, but being that there's been several other Masters designs and homages found in Imaginext toys you wonder if this really is meant to look like Mer-Man's sword. Until we get what I think would be an amazing Masters of the Universe Imaginext line of toys, I have to just hope these homages continue.
