A Little Of This, A Little Of That, Makes For Few Updates.

So a few things to mention that will clarify the title of this post. First, I've been kinda busy on others things these past few weeks, one of which is my book(s) project. Second I was out a week being kinda really sick. And last, I haven't had much spending money for toys due to bills and 2 major car repair payments that I didn't intend to have to be paying out these last few weeks. Those repairs pretty much ate up all my extra funds that would have went to picking up a few toys. But luckily, not everything I collect is expensive.

I know buying out of discounters is getting to be an issue with those who have to buy things right away, or earlier at crazy inflated 100x retail prices via ebay just to be able to have things first. And in a sense I understand one side of their argument, that is you wait for things to leave the primary retail chains you stand to loose out on future offerings being produced. However, the difference between waiting for an item to hit a discounter and buying an item at a discounter you missed brings up another counter-argument. Discounters help collectors who were not collecting something when it was in major stores and only able to be found later on. I didn't start collecting Kre-O when it first hit. Kre-O is nothing but a LEGO knock-off, a cheaper made imitation toyline. It just is. At first this was enough for me to totally blow it off. Hasbro was just being lazy and trying to snatch up some of the crazy money LEGO takes in. What finally got me collecting Kre-O was the G.I.Joe line. After I was in on Joes, I began to grab a few Transformers Kreons. But at this point most of the single pack waves had been long gone from toy shelves.

This is where Five Below comes in to save the day for me. Thanks to Five Below for taking on toys that other retailers didn't want. I had gotten a Transformers Kre-O Preview Wave Micro Changer Sunstorn there not too long ago for $3.99. I think that is actually about what it was at normal retail, but here I was able to grab it 2years after it originally sold. I would have had to result to ebay which I don't want to do. Two weeks back though I was able to pick up a few Kreons from the Micro Changers waves 1 and 5. Wave 1 has been gone from stores for some time, to find that wave now at Five Below is amazing.

TF Kre-O Micro Changer Wave 1 Bludgeon & Springer

These were a couple of impulse buys. I have no real connection to Bludgeon, I've never really thought much of his toys or the character. But I liked that this Kreon was made of of so many colors, it's really gaudy. A must buy. The Springer Kreon is a horrible representation of him, I actually only bought this figure for the helmet which I need for my Custom Kreon Hound set. At $2 a piece, I figure these were not too bad for impulse buys.

You may be thinking, Nightbeat? You sure? Yeah, at least according to Hasbro the company that owns these toys. And to think there are fans out there that always say Hasbro knows more about their brand than any of us do. So yeah, this is Nightbeat. Ugh. Anyhow, still a cool looking Kreon that I never was able to get at normal retail when he was out.

TF Kre-O Micro Changer Wave 1 Dirge

This is the figure that really got me excited about finding the older Kre-O waves. I collect the Deception Jet Kreons, and Dirge is the one that had been missing from my group. I don' exactly like the construction of the figure, the flak jacket protector blocks the jet canopy details on his chest. But that part is needed to keep his wings on. Why this jet used this piece when all the other jet's used something different I don't know. But it's a bad design detail.

So I had a budget of about $9 the dat I was at Five Below, and while I am happy to have gotten these 4 figures that I did, there were a few others left behind I may grab later on. The Highbrow Kreon looked neat, so did the Blast-Off and Inferno figures. The wave 5 Trypticon is another of the so ugly I must have it bunch, so maybe buying him too.

Now to veer off in a totally different direction...

This past week I picked up this Marvel Legends Spider Woman figure on sale at Target. The fact that it was on sale was cool, the fact that I had even seen her in stores was cooler. I've always liked Spider Woman, or at least this version of her. It may have to do with the comes drawn by Dave Cockrum who I really like as an artist. I have the Marvel Select Spider Woman figure already, but it's almost more stature than action figure, so this new one will make for a great replacement. The only problem with this new Marvel Legends figure is the wings. There's just never been a good design that incorporates the wings properly. This figure just comes with clip on wings in open and closed styles that you can interchange. Better than nothing I guess.
