Because It's Never Too Late To Post About Bargain Buys. (Imaginext Transformers Star Wars)

It's the end of March and I've only gotten one post written up this month. I had these images sitting here since mid-February so I figured I could finally get these posted and at least get a second blog published for the month. It's not much, but it's what I got for now.

I was a little late in getting out to the stores this year to take advantage of the after Christmas toy section re-sets. I missed quite a bit of great deals. But I did still score some awesome deals. Some of the things didn't stay with me though. I am one to get caught up in a deal, and I will often buy items I had no intention of buying at all just because they are now really cheap. I'm a bargain hunter, I'm cheap and frugal, and I'm not ashamed of it at all.

Imaginext
Imaginext clearance items can differ from chain to chain and even store to store within a chain. It's very weird to see such varying prices on the same items. So sometimes I don't even post about certain deals because it may not be the same at any other store outside of mine. My local Meijer had been getting in Imaginext Castle sets just before Christmas and still had a few after the turn of the year. I was able to snag a few duplicate sets and a few items I was dragging my feet on.

While Meijer was having a 25% off the lowest clearance price sale I picked up a second Imaginext Ghost Pirates Island, Space Series Ion Crab and my first Castle Elves Siege Engine set. The Obi-Wan figure was a cheap add-on, for under $2 I couldn't pass him up even though I am not actually collecting anything but the Imperial side of the Galactic Heroes/Jedi Force toys. The Ghost Pirate sets are my favorite Imaginext pieces outside of the DC Super Friends series. I've slowly been adding an extra of each release to my collection, because I'm kind of a hoarder like that. The Ion Crap was going to go to my nephew, but I ended up returning it and getting him some Star Wars Jedi Force guys instead. As for the Siege Engine, I was super happy to see that on the shelf. The Elves line is pretty scarce, and while not impossible, can be a headache to complete. They of course have to actually make and distribute the items they say they are in order to complete the set, but I'm not going into that here.

Another subset of the Imaginext toy line that I enjoy collecting is based of the classic Universal Monsters characters. While not exact, and maybe more based off the original lore than the films, they offer a fun addition to the Imaginext brand. Dracula, the Mummy, Frankenstein's Monster, a Steam Punk-ish Van Helsing, a nice assortment of figures. I had a few of the figures already, but was missing the Dracula and Zombie figures. At about the same price, or cheaper when you think about shipping, I got the whole giftset for what it would have cost me for just 2 figures on Ebay. This same week I stumbled upon a bin of random junk at a Walmart and scored the blind bag figures in the pic for $1 each. With that I was able to add the Fly, Steam Punk Helsing and Big Foot. I think the last 2 figures I still need are the Mad Scientist and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Both those should be easy to find.

Transformers
I've said it before, but Hasbro's distribution and the retailers buying of Transformers Generations has been appalling. I know why so many have just moved on from buying at brick & mortar to just buying online. I never once saw Generations Arcee in stores. She isn't he only one who was rather elusive, I only saw Jetfire once. But just before Christmas there were reports of Ollie's closeout outlets getting the wave of Generations with Arcee in and at crazy good prices. Sadly I was too busy to go toy hunting. With a few reports late in January that the figures were still showing up I figured I'd try my hand at locating one.

I didn't find Arcee. I didn't find much of any of the larger Generations toys aside from tons of Roadbusters. Which I already had. I did however find some other toys I had never seen at normal retailers, Lengends series Optimus Prime, Skywarp and Ultra Magnus. On sale I got them for about $2 each. I actually want to see an actual white Magnus now that matches the card art, which ironically doesn't match the toy at all. But this is Magnus, and Hasbro does it's best to just fuck the character around most of the time. A few days later I spotted the Combiner Wars Powerglide and Bombshell at a Meijer for $5 each. I held onto these for a few weeks before ultimately deciding I just didn't need them. While they are cool, I just had no interest when they were announced and only bought them because they were 50% off. These 2 went back to Meijer.

Star Wars
The Biker Scout Trooper is probably my favorite design for a character in all of Star Wars. Something just clicked for me when I first saw it. When I found out Hasbro was doing a Hero Mashers of the Biker Scout I was thrilled. Later when it was announced the figure would only be available in a $50 gift set with other figures available elsewhere, I was super disappointed bordering on pissed off.

After Christmas Target stores began to clearance these 5 packs out with much of their other Holiday gift toy sets. When the set hit $25 I figured I'd bite. At just $5 a figure it seemed a great deal, even though I had some of the figures already. Because I was busy with other stuff I didn't get the set opened, and then in late January I spotted a single set stashed away in the sporting goods section of Target. On a whim I price checked it, and it came up $14.98. Nice! I grabbed that set, and ended up retuning the set I had found for $25. As cool as it would have been to have 2 Biker Scouts I didn't think it was necessary. I ended up taking the Biker Scout from the set and giving the remaining 4 figures to my nephew.

Overall pleased with what I did find. But a lesson learned here for me, when you drag your feet all the good stuff sells out before you get to it.

Lights, Camera, Inaction:Reaction (The Status Of GanguStars: Part 2)

The Status Of GanguStars Part 2
Almost a month later, and here's the second part of The Status Of GanguStars segment. The last part I should note, because I have to get onto other things.

What's New
I finally got a some real photo/studio lighting. As great as my homemade light boxes and work bench lighting was at getting my some good shots, I hope this new equipment does an even better job. A bit of an unexpected upgrade that came about with my mom calling me to say she was struggling to come up with a birthday gift for me just as I was researching camera lighting.

The other new item to use for my blog/net projects is a camcorder. Just a basic dedicated camcorder for making review vids or maybe interviews/event reporting. I got this thing late last year and have only just tested it for about 5 minutes, so I can't say anything will come of it in the next few months. But I figure one more tool in the arsenal can only be a good thing.

Renewals
GanguStars has been renewed for at least another year. I had made that decision last Fall. I went ahead on a few other renewals in February for some other things. One site I would love to still get to is a crafters help blog. A lot of folks ask my about customs, and even though I direct them to various online tutorials, some people remain lost. I want to make a blog that has the most basic of info to really help those that want to do things, to be able to do them.

Clutter, Junk & Garbage
What also has me stymied is the amount of crap sitting here, there and everywhere around my work spaces. The bulk of this mess is comprised of toys and books I no longer want. A lot of it is stuff I need to sell off, trade off or just give away. A bit of it falls into the area of possible garbage, items that I don't think anybody would even want to have sent there way at just the cost of shipping. So far this reclaiming of my workspace has been my primary project over the last few months. It's really pushed my blog and anything else creative aside. But things are slow going of course.

Speaking About Selling Things
I've tried to sell things that I no longer want at, or just above cost to cover me fees. It's not working. At a time when so many are crying fowl at crazy high prices yet asking ridiculous prices for their own items, I'm finding myself at a loss. A loss of polite words for them, and a loss of respect. I'm at a point where I may just go the ¢1 auction route. Make sure I charge correct shipping as to not make it a loss and just let folks pay what they want. I've had two "Pay What You Want" sales in the past and things have gone well, maybe it times to do one on Ebay. It'll also be a protest to all the shit I see going on at Ebay with the fucked up Buy It Now item pricing.

Of course all of this is well and good, but until this damn Winter is over I'm going to be moody and depressed at seeing all this fucking snow...
